One of the best experiences you can have while reviewing an album is hearing that the performers are into it for the music! Not the business, the glitter and glamour or anything else, but simply the pure joy of making good music! With Sweet Emma and The Mood Swingers this is what I heard the first time I put on this disc! Not the good quality of the performances, not the great music, but the fun and joy that comes with this disc. For twelve tracks long you hear some great up tempo swing and jive straight from the fifties alternated with some excellent self penned tunes! From the leading track onLillie Maeoriginally done by Smiley Lewis , it becomes clear that Sweet Emma and her mood swingers take things seriously! Followed by Slippin’ and slidin’ the album creates the good mood to present the first self penned track :“So good to be back”. Consisting out of 100% pure dance music this album gives you a good mood and even while sitting down to type this I can’t stand tapping my foot on the crazy rhythms presented here! Own compositions like “Hoodoo Hill”, “One Hit Wonder” or “Drinkin at 2:05 “ are really stand out tracks and blend perfectly with old timers like “Wrong Lake To Catch a Fish” (Chuck Willis) or “Violent Love” (Willie Dixon). Pure ecstasy for dancers and lovers of swing, jive and assorted genres “Turn It Up” by Sweet Emma and The Mood Swingers is really the catch of the day! Mr Blue Boogie |
